Leaving El Paso
Getting there is half the fun (if you're under 6 feet tall)

We started out on Sunday morning by having breakfast at a Mexican restaurant at the airport while killing time waiting for our flight to Atlanta. We dawdled apparently a bit too long and then faced an alarmingly long, slow line through security. We barely made it through there in time to catch our flight.
Our connection in Atlanta was on-time and we were surprised to find that the plane was by code-share partner Delta rather than Alitalia as was printed on our ticket. The plane didn’t offer much in the way of amenities as compared to other international flights (such as personal seatback video systems to pass the time, etc.) but it was an uneventful flight that had us arriving in Rome on time (and in need of a massage therapist or chiropractor). Are all airplane design engineers Napoeonic in stature? How else can you explain why the reclining seat in front of you lands in your knees -- hardly the most comfortable posture to adopt for the next 8.5 hours!
