Split
Croatia, not our pants
21.11.2008
On Thursday morning we arrived in Split, Croatia. There was a long wait for the tours to depart, but eventually we were escorted to a bus to take us into the city for a Historic Split Walking Tour. The guide was pretty good but the group was far too large. You could not hear here unless you were up close and you couldn’t see the details through the crowd. She took us underneath the walled city, explaining its history and then took us through its many twisty alleyways and plazas as well as Diocletian’s palace. After it was over, we walked around the shops and streets, admiring the architecture and gasping at prices. We stopped near the fish market at a seafood restaurant where we enjoyed a plate of fried anchovies much as we’d had in Genoa. Unfortunately after walking around again we once again got stuck in torrential rains which put an abrupt end to our day in Split.
We rested for awhile in our cabin and then attended a show celebrating the music of Broadway shows that had been turned into movies. It was quite well done. Afterwards we tried our hand at sports trivia but it was focused on a weak suit for me – Olympics trivia. We did pretty badly.
